Composer Services

In addition to writing music in our own right, we also offer our skils for the benefit of other composers. If there's something that needs doing but you don't have either the time, skills, hardware or software to do it then we might be the prople to help. Services for composers include:

  • Orchestration
  • Midi Programming
  • Arangements
  • Orchestra Part Preparation
  • Sub-contracting (ghost or credited)

Success as a media composer is so much about networks and relationships. If you are offered work but don't have time (or just don't want to!) undertake it - but want to maintain the relationship with the client, it might be worth asking us if we can sub-contract (either creditied or not) - then everyone's happy.

Please see examples of what we can offer below.

Orchestration

Ha Haaaaaaaaaar! [3:51]
Think family adventure when junior swashbucklers hunt for conquistador gold with a few pirates thrown in for good measure. So we're closer in style to 'Herbie rides to New Mexico' than we are to 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. For full orchestra.
  Album only

In this case, the composer sent us an audio file which laid out the melodies and basic harmonic structure along with video for the cue. It's purpose was as the opening credits for a movie called 'The Gold Retrievers'. We added an element of Spanishness (conquistador gold...) to the orchestration and followed a brief that it should be a little like 'The Goonies'.

Midi Programing

Åsa's Death [4:45]
from Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 Op. 46. Used here as an example of midi programing.

Writing music using multisampled instruments is probably no more than 20% actual composition. The rest of the time is spent selecting the right samples to create then sound you want and then tweaking articulations, volumes, pan, reverb, eq and so forth until you think it sounds real (or as real as you're ever going to get it!) Here is an example of how we approached programming a dramatic string piece by Grieg. This particular piece involves multiple layers of different sized string sections and quite a lot of subtle articulation tweaks.
